On 5thJuly 2023, Instagram introduced the world to their latest creation, Threads. Described as “A New Way to Share with Text”, the app offers a fresh space for real-time updates and engaging public conversations.
Meta continued to highlight that the real purpose of Threads is “to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text”, allowing users to respond to, repost, and quote other people’s posts. Does that ring a bell? Yes, there has been speculation that Threads is quite similar to Twitter.
To break it down, users will be given a real chance to foster positive conversations across their social network and audience. In an age where there is an overload of information across various platforms, would Threads make a genuine impact in driving narratives forward or would it just add to the clutter?
Nonetheless, the app reached 100 million users in the very first days following its launch, surpassing the trending ChatGPT!
Instagram takes a new approach toward connectivity
It’s 2023 and tech companies have grown keen towards the idea that overuse of social media can disrupt mental and physical health. So, when launching the app, Instagram highlighted that users can control the amount of time they spent using Threads and choose who they wish to interact with. Another feature that caught our eye: Everyone who is under 16 (or under 18 in certain countries) will be automatically defaulted into a private profile when they set up Threads.
