At Social Progress, we’re thrilled to sponsor fairandfunky CIC’s annual ‘Fairtrade Conference for Primary Schools’ during Fairtrade Fortnight 2023. We’re excited to contribute to this important event, which not only showcases Fairtrade in education but also brings the message of global fairness directly to children.

The conference will happen at the Tolson Museum in Huddersfield, where fairandfunky will bring together primary school children from Kirklees and Calderdale. These students will celebrate and learn about Fairtrade products and producers from across the globe. We are proud to play a part in making Fairtrade both fun and meaningful for children’s education.

Janet, a member of our SoPro team, shared her excitement: “At Social Progress, we’re always looking for ways to be more sustainable and ethical. We proudly incorporate Fairtrade into our daily operations. For instance, all the hot drinks we enjoy and serve to clients during meetings carry the Fairtrade mark. Additionally, as active members of Holme Valley Fairtrade, we believe using Fairtrade-certified products is an easy yet powerful way to create positive change. Supporting the fairandfunky Fairtrade Conference for Schools allows us to spread the message of Fairtrade and celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight in a meaningful way.”

Moreover, the conference will explore themes like climate change, global learning, and creativity. These topics will tie directly into the core values of Fairtrade. Specifically, the Fairtrade mark guarantees that producers receive fair compensation for their hard work. In 2023, Fairtrade Fortnight encourages consumers to make small, everyday changes. Consequently, these actions support producers, protect the planet, and safeguard the future of our favorite foods.

Sophie Root, Director of fairandfunky CIC (and also SoPro Sophie), shared her thoughts: “We’re delighted to have Social Progress as our official conference sponsor. They show how small, daily steps can have a big impact on both people and the planet. This is something we promote in our work with schools. Ultimately, everyone has the power to change the world for the better, one small step at a time. We can’t wait to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight with Social Progress and over 100 schoolchildren at our conference later this month.”

Based in Holmfirth, fairandfunky CIC has delivered workshops for nearly 11 years. They partner with schools and community groups to address important global issues such as recycling, Fairtrade, and environmental sustainability.
