This week I partook in my work experience at Social Progress, which I choose as the place I wanted to go to as I enjoy the subjects I choose in school that partly revolve around what the company does.
On my first day at Social Progress, I arrived at around 9am and was immediately given a friendly welcome by Janet and Alex before getting started on my first task which was to research days of the year for the month of July. I put the celebrated days I chose into a chronical list before using an old template of the same task and changing the dates and words to the ones that I chose for July with Alex’s help. This was then checked over by Janet and then posted onto Social Progress’ social media. I also started to work on a client’s brand templates that they had requested, before heading home at 5pm.
They next day, I had my photo taken and we posted it, my brother later sending me a picture of it like I hadn’t been one of the first to see it, then continuing to work on the templates before heading out with Janet in her car. We had the roof down which was cool, but then she started playing Lion King on full blast which was quite embarrassing. When we got back, I finished the templates and Alex had a look through them, fixing anything that was off before we sent them to Janet. After that, we also went to Blackmoorfoot reservoir on Tuesday, and I watched Alex fly the drone, which was a good learning experience as well as it being fun. Tuesday was a long day as from 5-9pm, I went to Ruddi’s Retreat to join Janet and her sister in a TikTok masterclass, filming a few videos for later, and also managing to help a few people there by standing up and showing them how to extract a saved video’s audio into Capcut.
On Wednesday, I went to Huddersfield University with my mum to help set up and event that Janet would also be attending. I filmed a few clips and ate more macaroons before going back with Janet to Social Progress at around half past 12. I watched Alex make a video with the clips that I took at Ruddi’s on Tuesday before making my own video on Canva with the clips I had taken that morning.
I wasn’t in on Thursday morning, but when I arrived at 1pm, I straight away posted the video I had made the day prior, Janet writing a caption for it before I dove into editing another video with the clips that the drone had taken on Tuesday, using transitions and finding a non-copyright song to complete it. When I finished, Alex proof checked it and when he said it was all good, I wrote my own caption, sending it to Janet to edit anything she disliked before I again, posted it onto their social media. Since I’m apparently a powerhouse and finished most the work, I was tasked to start writing my blog, which I’m doing now. After that, I was then asked to go through their list of clients that Alex had printed off and to check their socials, seeing what kind of things Social Progress does for them, as layouts and templates.
On Friday, Janet wasn’t there as she was going away on a small holiday, so I was there with my mum and Alex. Firstly, I was tasked with making a graphic for my blog, which included the picture we took earlier that week of me. I then was asked to use Alex’s camera to take some shots of a product, and to get creative with it before we uploaded the pictures onto my computer. Finally, we posted the graphic I made earlier onto their social media, with a few tweaks to fit the new format and I made a caption for that.
Thank you to Social Progress for having me for work experience. It has been a great week, and I felt as I have learnt a lot. I hope that when I grow up and find myself in a real working place, it will be as enjoyable as it was this week, and I hope my future co-workers will be as welcoming as Janet and Alex.
