Instagram Filters – Just For Fun

Jan 20, 2020

There’s been a lot of talk online recently about Instagram Filters. Now mainly these are just for fun but there’s no reason you can’t incorporate some Filters into your everyday social media marketing strategy. It all depends on the business, your objectives and your business culture. We like to have a little (well a lot really) of fun in what we do and so these are perfect for us to show the different characters of our team.

Instagram.com Face Filters

Instagram has a bank of filters available from within the app. Simply open Instagram, and while on the Home screen tap ‘Your Story’ you’ll then see all the different filters available to use for selfies or on other people.

There’s a number of additional Instagram filters, and unofficial ones available from developers which are great to have a bit of a fool around with, but they’re not the ones you will get with the Instagram app. So how do you get them?

Additional Instagram Filters

To access more filters from Instagram, open the app, select ‘Your Story’ or add to story to see your Stories camera. Then tap the filter button (the circles to either side of the camera button) to scroll all the way over to the right until you see ‘Browse Effects’.

Select this and they you’ll see a whole host of different Filter Effects in the ‘Effect gallery’ for you to search and choose from.

One of my favourites is the ‘Thoughts’  filter from @amberarcadia

From here you can try them and also save them to use with all your other filter later.

Unique Unofficial Face Filters by AR Creators on Instagram

Well there’s a few we’ve come across that we like. For example:-

  • Which Disney character are you?
  • Which Harry Potter character are you?

On the two mentioned here the filter creates a video above your head and ‘spins’ to make a random choice on which character to land on for you.So how do you get these filters?

Harry Potter Filter

1. Log onto Instagram on your phone or tablet — the filters can only be accessed through the app.

2. search for Elena (@syilers).

3. Below the user’s bio you will see three tabs: a grid of their posts, a smiley face icon, and one which gives you their tagged posts. Select the smiley face icon.

4. Click on the post called ‘Harry Potter Test’ which shows the user with ‘Which Harry Potter Character Are You?’ written above her head with an image of Hogwarts.

5. Select the white ‘Try It’ tab with a camera icon in the bottom left corner.

6. Hold down the circular button at the bottom of the screen that shows a cartoon of Ron, Harry and Hermione to begin recording video. While it’s recording, use another finger to tap the Hogwarts artwork above your or the person’s head, which should have appeared above your head.

7. Release the button to finish recording once the filter has landed on a character.

8. To save this filter and use again later select the wording ‘HARRY POTTER TEST’ at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Save’

Disney Filter

1. Log onto Instagram on your phone or tablet.

2. search for ARNO PARTISSIMO @arnopartissimo

3. Below the user’s bio you will see four tabs: a grid of their posts, a Instagram TV icon, a smiley face icon, and one which gives you their tagged posts. Select the smiley face icon.

4. Click on the post called ‘Which Disney?’ which shows the user with ‘Olaf’ from Frozen above his head.

5. Select the white ‘Try It’ tab with a camera icon in the bottom left corner.

6. Hold down the circular button at the bottom of the screen that shows the Disney castle to begin recording video. The filter will stop on a random character.

7. Release the button to finish recording once the filter has landed on a character.

8. To save this filter and use again later select the wording ‘WHICH DISNEY?’ at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Save’.

And that’s it! Really simple good honest fun in the office. Do have a try and tag us in on Instagram @socialprogress to show us your results.

Have FUN!
