BNI Huddersfield

Dec 6, 2016

Have you ever heard of BNI before? Yes? No? Well, Janet and Esther are both members of BNI groups in Huddersfield and we thought it would be worth explaining a little bit about it.

What is BNI?

BNI stands for Business Network International and is a worldwide business networking organisation. BNI was founded 30 years ago by Dr Ivan Misner in the US and has grown considerably since then. Members meet weekly to build relationships, learn more about each other and pass genuine referrals to each other in support of the group. The BNI philosophy is based on “givers gain” – if I give you business, you’ll want to give me business.

BNI Terriers

Janet Bebb has been a member of BNI Terriers for over 4 years now. Why? Because she see more than just the financial benefit of being a committed and active member of the 40+ member group! She holds the “Social Media” seat which means that she’s locked out her competition and has exclusivity in the group as the Social Media Expert. Not only has she built really strong relationships within the group but she’s been looking out for genuine business opportunities for fellow members, developed her presentation skills and also helped to set-up a brand new group in the Calderdale and Kirklees Area called BNI Bridge. Janet also manages the BNI Terriers Social Media accounts (Facebook and Twitter).

When asked why I renewed my membership again I simply said “why wouldn’t I?” The benefits of being a member far outweigh the financial investment made and I’m really glad I stayed – Janet Bebb, Social Progress (BNI Terriers Member)

BNI Terriers currently meet at 315 Bar and Restaurant, Lepton every Wednesday morning, 6:45am-8:30am. Find out more on their Eventbrite Page or contact Janet for more info.

BNI Bridge

After being introduced to the world of BNI in her first year of working at Social Progress and occasionally subbing for Janet at BNI Terriers, Esther Orridge became a member of BNI Bridge in June 2016. She’s been an active and committed member ever since and has recently been appreciated as a “Network Leader for Bringing the Most Visitors to BNI Bridge in October 2016”. She’s also on the Visitor Hosting Team, making sure visitors feel welcome and looked after as well as managing the BNI Bridge Social Media accounts (Facebook and Twitter).

I really enjoy BNI Bridge. It may be a new group but it’s very friendly and we’re keen to support each other! – Esther Orridge, Social Progress (BNI Bridge Member)

BNI Bridge currently meet at Huddersfield YMCA every Tuesday morning, 6:45am-8:30am. Find out more on their Eventbrite Page or contact Esther for more info.

Why is BNI like Marmite?

Esther often describes Business Networking International to people as being like Marmite – you either love it or you hate it! BNI isn’t for everyone but we do encourage people to come along for a visit to experience a meeting for themselves and make their own decision about the format. BNI meetings are structured for a reason and it clearly works because it’s still going strong (all around the globe) today!

Would you like to visit?

If you’d like to visit BNI Terriers or BNI Bridge one week do get in touch with Janet or Esther. We’d be happy to send you more info and introduce you to the groups!
