What a whirlwind!
My first year at Social Progress has flown by – it feels like 2 minutes since I first joined the team, but at the same time, like forever ago that I decided to see what agency life is all about after working in local government for 2 ½ years.
It’s always daunting when taking that leap from what you know to something a little different. It can take some time to adjust to a new way of working and settle in to a new role, but sometimes, just getting stuck in is the best way to learn the ropes, and that was definitely the case for me. Of course, the encouragement and support of your team is a massive help too!
Looking back to my first week and all that has happened since then has highlighted the progress I’ve made and allowed me to reflect on those little bits of knowledge and skills I’ve picked up along the way that you wouldn’t normally consider.
Fast forward 12 months and I’m now managing the social media for 11 different clients covering a fantastic range of sectors – from a charity and venue collection to a bakery and local food festival! This means that no two days are the same and you’re always working on something new.
Variety is a huge plus of our role as Social Media Account Managers, as you get to be part of each stage of the process – whether that’s idea generation and content planning, strategy and evaluation or photography/videography and graphic design.
I’m constantly discovering new things about the world of social media, and each week that goes by, I can say that I’m more informed than the previous. Developments in tech and the ever-changing landscape of digital marketing platforms brings new challenges and things for us to sink our teeth into. There’s never a day without a new feature or tool coming into play!
I’ve had the opportunity to work on and be a part of some really exciting and interesting projects and these continue to present themselves which is fantastic news for me!
I’ve been able to attend some fantastic events, where I’ve gathered content to provide live social media coverage across platforms, which has been a real highlight. It’s not every day that you get to visit and work from the likes of Alton Towers and Silverstone.
